The Philippines is not sending foreign investors "the right signals" with the downsizing of the Commission of Human Rights' budget to P1,000, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines said Thursday.
"With a budget of $20 for the human rights commission, I don’t think we’re sending the right signals,” ECCP president Guenter Taus said in a press briefing on the sidelines of the Arangkada Philippines Forum 2017 in Pasay City.
The House of Representatives on Tuesday acted to reduce the CHR's 2018 budget to P1,000 from a proposed P678 million.
Taus said that human rights, along with peace and order, should be given priority by the government.
"We have to look at long-term solutions, meaning that goes with the political stability of the country as well as with the peace and order, and everything else," he said.
