The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) kicked off the year with several meetings to provide key business perspectives to support EU-Philippines FTA Dialogue. Led by ECCP President Paulo Duarte and Executive Director Florian Gottein, the Chamber engaged in two high-level missions to ensure the European-Philippine business community's voice remains central to the negotiation process.
On 27 January, the Chamber met with the EU Chief Negotiator and her team to provide technical feedback on sector-specific issues, including digitalization and result of origin. This was followed by a meeting with the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) on 16 February. Led by Hon. Bernd Lange and EU Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Massimo Santoro, the delegation engaged with ECCP leadership and industry experts to discuss the transition from GSP+ to a permanent FTA. The Chamber provided critical “on-the-ground” insights, highlighting the Philippines’ robust fundamentals while addressing regulatory bottlenecks to ensure a foundation of transparency and ease of doing business.
As the primary advocate for the FTA’s speedy conclusion, the ECCP remains committed to a favorable outcome. Finalizing this comprehensive deal is vital to unlocking new export potential and fostering sustainable economic growth. The Chamber continues to bridge public-private dialogues, securing a thriving future for European-Philippine trade relations.
