Finland has a highly industrialized, largely free-market economy with one of the highest GDP per capita in Europe. It is ranked as the number one business environment in the world in the Global Innovation Index due to its uniquely high levels of stability, continuity, and predictability. In terms of constantly adapting to the changing world, Finland has learned to work its way to globalization by undergoing a further transition to a service-dominated and technology-based society from a forestry-based economy. The major sectors that currently influence its economic development are biotechnology, chemical industries, life sciences, communications, and electronics and services. This, therefore, resulted in a high number of trademark and patent applications relative to the gross domestic product; development of data-intensive jobs; and innovations in SMEs. In having a knowledge-based and innovative economy through free trade and openness to investment in the globalized economy, Finland shows an indication that it can continuously thrive at a healthy rate in the coming years which gives the idea that it could offer growth potential and business opportunities across different industries.
