• Profile of Participants: Government officials, representatives from German companies, as well as enterprises that have contributed to the achievement of the Philippines' Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Additionally, representatives from embassies, local government units (LGUs), and local businesses will also be present.

SYNOPSIS

The Philippines is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, facing significant risks from natural disasters. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the economic cost of inaction on climate change could rise to PHP 1.4 trillion (approximately EUR 22.3 billion) by 2030. The establishment of the Climate Change Commission and the formulation of the National Climate Change Action Plan (2011–2028) underscores food security, water sufficiency, human safety, sustainable energy, and the development of green industries. It also highlights climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and adaptive strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on communities and ecosystems. As part of its commitment to ambitious climate mitigation strategies, the Philippines aims to reinforce national policies and programs that advance sustainability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and bolster the country's capacity to respond to climate-related challenges effectively. To meet these climate objectives, the country has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030 and increase the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix to 35% by 2030, with a long-term target of 50% by 2040.

By fostering collaborative initiatives with climate-vulnerable nations like the Philippines, Germany creates vital opportunities for knowledge exchange, technical cooperation, and capacity-building.
