ECCP Luncheon Meeting with ERC
As the Philippines accelerates its energy transition and pursues long-term energy security, the role of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is more critical than ever. Tasked with the dual mandate of protecting consumer interests and ensuring the financial viability of the power industry, the ERC oversees rate-setting, market monitoring, and the enforcement of competition rules within the energy sector.
With the push for a higher renewable energy mix, the demand for a proactive and transparent regulatory framework has reached a critical point. Moreover, the continued implementation of the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP), as well as the need for grid modernization remain vital in charting the country's landscape. For 2026 and beyond, navigating the complexities of the energy market from price volatility to grid stability requires a regulatory approach that is both agile and sustainability-driven.
Relatedly, a growing number of European companies are actively participating in the Philippine energy sector, contributing investments, technologies, and expertise in renewable energy development, grid solutions, and energy efficiency initiatives. As the Philippines continues to expand its renewable energy capacity and modernize its energy infrastructure, a clear and predictable regulatory environment remains essential to sustaining investor confidence and enabling further investments.
In this context, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) will convene a high-level dialogue with the ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Francis Staurnino Juan to discuss the commission's strategic direction and explore pathways for enhanced public-private partnership. This luncheon meeting aims to:
- Gain insights into the ERC's strategic priorities, regulatory roadmap, and institutional reforms for 2026 and the years ahead;
- Discuss measures to streamline the permitting and rate-setting processes to foster a more predictable investment climate;
- Identify opportunities for collaboration in advancing energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and digital transformation in consumer protection and market monitoring; and
- Provide a platform for ECCP members to share global best practices and industry perspectives that contribute to a robust, transparent, and future-ready Philippine energy sector.
